The historic branch has been fully refurbished with major work having been done on its vintage woodwork and plaster. The architectural beauty of the branch has been enhanced by an artwork installation.

A number of special events are planned for the day, including a prize draw.

  • 2 p.m. – Magic show with Ian Quick
  • 3 p.m. – Cake cutting
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Animal balloon making with Brad the Balloon Guy

Branch highlights

The Rideau branch has the atmosphere of a heritage library with all the modern conveniences. One of the older libraries in the city, the Rideau branch is close to shopping and restaurants in the Byward Market and the Rideau Street corridor. The branch was opened in 1934 by former Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden and has maintained its old world charm.
