Activities with the Letter F

Hi, everyone! Here are some fun low-tech activities for your family to try together at home. Perhaps you can include this list of activities in your morning routine, or in your afternoon routine following nap time. Please note that we are compiling family literacy ideas for each letter of the alphabet -meaning that you'll have 26 days worth of songs, yoga postures, tongue twisters and more to have fun with! Enjoy :)

One, Two, Three, Four, Five!

Let's count together : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

Let's learn to sign the numbers from 1 to 10! With this video

And now....let's count by FIVE : 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50...

Five little ducks

Sing along with this version

Five little ducks went out one day,

Over the hill and far away,

Mama duck said : “quack, quack, quack”

But only four little ducks came back.

Continue counting back four, three, two, one, and finally no little duck and then ALL the little ducks come back :

Four little ducks went out one day...

Three little ducks went out one day...

Two little ducks went out one day...

One little duck went out one day...

Sad mother duck went out one day,

Over the hill and far away

The sad mother duck said : “quack, quack, quack”

And all of the five little ducks came back!

Freeze Tag

Move around your space – move your body – be silly, shake it out. When you hear ”FREEZE”, stop where you are and don’t move like a statue. You can play this with others and take turns saying “FREEZE” - but if you are alone, you can say freeze.

Five Finger Breathing

Hold your hand up and look at all your fingers

Start by breathing in as you trace your baby finger UP, then breath out as you trace your baby finger DOWN

Continue with all your fingers, breathing in – trace up and breathing out as you trace down. Switch hands.

Old Macdonald had a FARM

Sign and sing. Learn the signs and the sounds of animals on the farm

Old MacDonald had a farm, EIEIO

And on that farm he had a : CAT. EIEIO

With a “meow meow” here and a “meow meow” there,

Here a “meow”, there a “meow”, everywhere a “meow meow”

Old MacDonald had a farm, EIEIO

Continue with other animals :

Pig – oink

Cow – moo

Horse - neigh

Dog - woof

Duck - quack

Rooster – cock a doodle doo

Sheep - baaaa

Can you think of more animals? Which ones start with the letter F? (ex: flamingo, ferret, fox, fin whale...)

Tongue Twister

"Four fine fresh fish for you"

"Friendly fleas and fireflies"
