October is…Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

Oct 05, 2020

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.” — John Grogan, Marley & Me

Adopt a dog month was founded by the American Humane Association in 1981, in order to draw attention to the number of dogs in shelters.  October is now referred to as Adopt a Shelter dog month, and a great way to encourage adoption of shelter dogs, and to spread the word regarding all the available dogs looking for a good home (National Day Calendar, 2020).

Not sure where to start on your dog adoption journey? There are many sites online for adopting shelter dogs  such as Petfinder.comor websites for specific rescues. Many groups on social media platforms such as Facebook offer shelter dog information, and groups for rehoming/adopting a new pet.

Several of the Beaverbrook team have adopted rescues (and couldn’t be more happy with their new pups!  --Just look at the pics above to see their smiling faces!) They came from Ottawa (The Ottawa Humane Society), Mexico (All Paws Matter), and Texas (Paws R Us).
