I noticed that the top review for “My Dark Vanessa” on Amazon, by Courtney, only gave the novel a three-star rating and complained: “I … wonder if authors these days realize that conservatives buy books… This novel was peppered with snarky comments. ‘conservative trolls’.... ‘We laugh along with Jon Stewart, cringe when George W Bush comes on-screen’ ‘I can't believe he stole the election’ I say. ‘They all steal elections’, Mom says ‘It's just not so bad when a Democrat does it.’ Really?” Obviously, these snide remarks didn’t bother die-hard leftist Ann Archer at all, but they would bother a lot of readers. I listened to the audio segment from the other novel reviewed “Luster”, and it described the young black woman and much older white man meeting on their first date and discussing climate change and what it would be like to be burnt to a crisp in an environmental apocalypse. Yes, of course. What else would they talk about it. Has Ann Archer ever read a book by anyone who skews to the right of the political spectrum? Has she avoided Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novels on principle? Just asking.
