Contactless services inside branches – effective June 14

11/06/2021

As of June 14, 2021, there will be contactless services inside most branches, with capacity limits in place. This means:

  • Holds can be picked up on shelves and checked out at self-checkout stations.
  • Borrowed items can be returned via book drops anytime.
  • Access to PCs, Chromebooks, and printing, where these are available.
  • Hours of operation remain the same, except at Osgoode.
  • Mask-wearing remains mandatory inside, and outside in line.

For more details, go to Current Branch Services.

Interlibrary Loan

Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for your Interlibrary loan requests to be filled.

Please note that many libraries remain closed due to the pandemic. This has a direct effect on the length of time it takes to obtain requests. We appreciate your patience.

Looking for a book title not in our collection? As of July 2, 2019, we have resumed our Interlibrary Loan Service, where we search and borrow from other library catalogues.

OPL card holders can request four (4) Interlibrary Loans a month for items that are not in the OPL collection. When making a request be sure to check the OPL catalogue first.

Please fill the Interlibrary Loan form with complete and accurate information for a successful search. Please note that you cannot request items that have been published in the last 12 months.

If an Ontario public library does not have your request but a library outside of Ontario does, with your permission on the ILL webform we may charge you cost recovery for postage and possible loan fees. Other fees may apply if material is returned late, or for an ILL item on hold that is not picked up.

We review frequently-asked-for titles and subjects that may be appropriate to purchase for our collection if still available in print, and if budget permits. We believe in providing collection access for our customers to the best of our abilities while balancing our fiscal and collection responsibilities.

Please note: You can enroll in the SmartLibrary service at any branch. The National Capital Region’s SmartLibrary card allows access to a local library network that includes Ottawa’s university and museum libraries. No interlibrary loans will be completed if available through SmartLibrary
