Sean Wilson Should Review Maverick: A Biography of Thomas Sowell

When I heard Sean gushing about the great economics behind Kim Stanley Robinson’s “The Ministry for the Future” I was stunned at the presumption of the remark, since Sean is an obvious ignoramus on the subject. From the Amazon reviews it appeared that the book is deep into modern monetary theory, which makes it a strange kind of novel, with a junky kind of economics. It is also apparently one of Barack Obama’s favourite books of 2020. Enough said. Obviously not a book worth reading. If Sean really does want to read something relating to economics that isn’t simply crackpot economics, I would suggest he read Wall Street Journal reporter Jason L. Riley’s “Maverick: A Biography of Thomas Sowell.” It is currently on order for the OPL. I already have a hold on it. It is particularly apposite at this time, as Sowell was the author of the masterly “The Housing Boom and Bust”. Now, thanks to PM Trudeau, Canada is well into its own boom and bust, and the similarities between the events Sowell described and what is happening now should be obvious. I’m not really sure if there is any hope for Sean, but if there’s anyone who can turn him around it is surely Professor Sowell. Je garde espoir.
