Since 1991, this annual campaign has been a unifying force for people and organizations around the world calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals.
The start of the campaign coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 and ends on Human Rights Day, December 10. In Canada, we also observe December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, to honour the 14 young women who were murdered during the tragic mass shooting at École Polytechnique Montréal in 1989.
On December 6, we encourage you to wear white or a white ribbon to honour the victims of the tragedy at École Polytechnique Montréal and all victims of gender-based violence.
Support is available in the community. Please visit Violence Prevention - Ottawa Public Health for a list of resources where you can access help, information and support.
