OTTAWA - In March, Our Stories: Indigenous Book Clubwill be readingUieshQuelquepart by JoséphineBacon.UieshQuelquepartis a book of poetry in French and Montagnais. Somewhere, an elder is moving. She carries within herNutshimit, the Land of the Ancestors. As aliving memory, nomadic, she observesthecity, thisundefinedplace. Speaking broadens the circle of humanity. Her eyes on the horizon, JoséphineBacon tells a storyof the silences and the vastness of the land.  

Originally from Pessamit, JoséphineBaconis an Innu poet, filmmaker and songwriter. She is considered one of Quebec’s most important authors. Bacon often says that she is not a poet, but that in her generous and nomadic heart, she speaks a language full of poetry thatechoeswith the voices of the ancestors who have shaped her life. 

On March 31 at 7 p.m., join us for a virtual book discussion with JoséphineBacon and the multidisciplinary artist Soleil Launière.You can get a copy of UieshQuelquepart at the Ottawa Public Library. 

Our Stories: Indigenous Book Club series is a partnership between the National Arts Centre’s Indigenous Theatre and Ottawa Public Library. Reflection questions will be shared on NAC’s Facebook Event page. You can borrow the book from the library and then join the discussion and share your thoughts about the book throughout the month!
