Revitalization of OPL Rosemount branch progressing despite delays Reopening slated for January 2021

Thursday, September 17, 2020

OTTAWA –Ottawa Public Library’s Rosemount branch, which opened more than a century ago, closed in May 2019 for revitalization further to extensive community engagement about what renovations and redesigns would bring the most benefit to OPL customers in the area.

The Library reports that progress on the revitalization work has advanced well despite the provincially-mandated shut down of construction projects earlier this year, due to the pandemic. Work is proceeding at a steady pace with all COVID-19 safety procedures in place.

Current highlights:

  • The inside of the building is nearing completion with drywall and ceilings complete, lights installed, and interior doors installed and finished
  • The three new washrooms are complete
  • Millwork for the service hub, computer workstations, and catalogue and print stations is almost finished
  • Landscaping is underway and should be finished by the end of September
  • September will also see the beginning of the window installation
  • The bird-friendly glass for the reading room “lantern” is in production and will be the final piece of the project to be put in place.

Details and recent photos are available on the OPL website at the following link: https://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/rosemount-revitalization

With the construction delay in spring 2020, OPL has set a new timeline for the popular branch’s reopening – January 2021.

In the meantime, OPL is operating a temporary location at 1207 Wellington St which is open six days a week, Monday to Saturday for holds pickup and returns.
